Settlement reached with local feedlot

HANCOCK CO., Iowa – A local feedlot is planning to pay thousands of dollars in a settlement reached after alleged violations of the facility’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

Branstad Farms, located in Forest City, will pay a $5,100 civil penalty and perform a $26,000 Supplemental Environmental Project as part of the settlement.

According to a press release from the EPA, Branstad Farms did not maintain adequate records associated with the land application of liquid effluent and manure from its feedlot and did not perform sampling of the materials and soil, as required by the NPDES permit.
