High school student running for Iowa town mayor

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An 18-year-old high school senior is throwing his hat into the ring to replace retiring 81-year-old Coralville mayor Jim Fausett.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports (http://bit.ly/16u7BaV) that Logan Strabala, a senior at West High School, filed papers this week to run for mayor and will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Strabala, who lives with his parents and works at a local grocery, says he’s serious about his candidacy and criticized current city leaders over the town’s debt. He also took shots at the other two declared mayoral candidates, current City Councilman John Lundell and local attorney Matt Adam, saying they won’t offer the city the change it needs.

Fausett, who was first elected mayor in 1995, announced in August that he will not seek a 10th term.
