The monument’s cost is estimated at $505,000, and a committee has raised more than $200,000. Organizers are seeking donations from businesses and individuals.
The memorial will have room for engravings of 2,000 veterans’ names. More than 1,200 have been submitted.
There is a $175 charge for each entry, which includes the veteran’s name, military branch and time of service.
Organizers say five truckloads of granite will arrive at the site next spring. A dedication is tentatively set for July 4, 2015.
