MASON CITY, Iowa – A local family is remembering their father in a special way, all thanks to area brewery.
Family and friends gathered at Mason City Brewing to honor avid brewer Gary Sellon.
Sellon brewed alongside his brother-in-law Kirk for many years, growing his own hops.
When Sellon passed away last year, his wife donated his remaining hops to the brewery.
They took his hops and made a special keg in Gary’s honor.
“It’s really wonderful; it’s different than what I thought it was going to be. It makes me feel really good that we can do this to honor my brother-in-law,” said Kirk Suby.
The beer was named SeaDog in honor of Sellon’s nickname from the Navy.
