CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Cedar Rapids police officer shot and wounded a man who is accused of damaging a vehicle and breaking into an auto-parts store.
Police say the officer was called to a disturbance around 7 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses reported that an unidentified a man was kicking a vehicle in a parking lot near an Advanced Auto Parts store.
Police say a store employee heard the disturbance outside and approached the man. The man turned his attention to the employee, who quickly returned to the store and locked the door. The man then gained entry into the store.
According to police, the officer entered the store, reported that shots had been fired, and called for backup. The suspect was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
Authorities have not identified anyone involved.
