Iowa police: Masked student brings knife to school

LONE TREE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say they’ve detained a student at an eastern Iowa high school who covered his face with a mask and brought a knife to school.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report Monday morning about an intruder attempting to enter Lone Tree High School in Lone Tree.

Deputies arrived at the school and found staff detaining 18-year-old Daniel Gregory Jansen. Police say he had been wearing a Halloween-style mask and was in possession of a knife.

The school was put temporarily on lockdown. Jansen was placed into custody and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for evaluation.

Additional information about the incident has not been released.
