DNR: Wastewater from Dubuque goes into creek

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Officials say a plugged sanitary pipe in Dubuque has caused untreated wastewater to flow into a nearby creek.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the public reported an odor Tuesday morning. A crew from the city’s public works department discovered the wastewater had flowed into the north fork of the Catfish Creek.

Officials were able to later remove the plug and route the wastewater back into the sanitary sewer system.

DNR says children and pets should be kept away from the area for 48 hours.
