Fort Dodge City Council changes pet rules

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — The Fort Dodge City Council is changing recently approved rules limiting the number of pets residents can own and whether dogs need to be leashed.

The Fort Dodge Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/1gXQJy5 ) the council voted Monday night to change rules approved early this month.

Under the new regulations, dogs wouldn’t need to be fenced or leashed at all time but would have to be under the control of an owner.

The regulations also no longer limit the number of pets someone can own but state that people can’t keep so many animals that it creates unsafe or unsanitary conditions.

The law takes effect immediately.
