CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Firefighters in Cedar Falls used heavy equipment to pull burning hay out of a barn.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says (http://bit.ly/171tUrC ) a motorist reported the fire west of Cedar Falls before dawn Wednesday after noticing a glow in the sky near the farm.
Firefighters from Cedar Falls and other nearby departments responded but found it wasn’t possible to douse the fire.
Instead they protected above-ground fuel tanks and a machine shed, then used an excavator to pull hay bales out of the barn. Firefighters spread out the bales and sprayed water to extinguish the flames.
Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Schilling says the building contained hay valued at up to $250,000.
