Arson ruled out in Minn. mosque fire

WINONA, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have ruled out arson in a fire that destroyed a mosque in downtown Winona earlier this month, though the exact cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

Assistant Winona Fire Chief Jim Multhaup (MULL’-tahp) tells KAGE Radio (http://bit.ly/16CWJGN ) authorities are certain the fire originated between the ceiling and roof of the Winona Islamic Center.

While investigators focused on a possible electrical cause, Multhaup says no final ruling was made on the fire’s cause.

Authorities don’t believe arson was involved.

The Sept. 13 fire destroyed two buildings, including the Islamic Center, and heavily damaged a third. No one was hurt.
