Change is coming across the nation.
Starting October 1st, Americans can begin open enrollment for the new online insurance marketplaces.
And with the president’s plan come a lot of questions surrounding the new Affordable Care Act
If you think you’re in the dark when it comes to figuring out how the new health care reform will affect you you’re not alone.
Insurance agents like Bob Kloberdanz have been answering a lot of question lately, but none more than:
“Is it going to affect my current plan or is it going to affect my Medicare plan.”
And the answer… it won’t
“No it won’t affect either one of those now, what it is, is a new program for people that don’t have health insurance or maybe have had a pre existing condition and couldn’t get health insurance,” explains Kloberdanz.
The goal of the law is to make sure every American has health insurance.
If you’re currently not on a plan there are a couple of ways to get enrolled.
You can do it through an agent who sells on the exchange or.
“They can go online, they can do it at home you can go online to, it’s a government website that will help kind of sort it out a little bit and they can sign up and do it directly.”
Open enrollment for a health insurance plan starts on October 1st and will stay open until the end of March 2014.
There are also a lot of people who still have questions about what their new insurance rates will be.
“In north east Iowa we have a different rate than Des Moines would or Davenport would so if you looked online or had a rough idea that can vary depending on where you live in Iowa or Minnesota you just need to go and put in your zip code to get an accurate rate,” adds Kloberdanz.
Another question some have about the insurance changes is how they will impact their budgets.
But there are resources out there to help provide options, and figure out how to pay for it.
“We are anticipating people calling in and trying to re work their budget to see how they’re going to be able to make all of the costs and see that they can pay for all the requirements they’re going to have,” says Kathye Gaines.
Gaines is with Consumer Credit Counseling and says they have been getting a lot of questions but that’s okay.
Both Gaines and insurance agents are stressing the importance of people being informed about their options.
