Minn. now permits online voter registration

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota can now register to vote from their computers or other remote devices, giving them an alternative to filling out a paper form.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie’s office announced the launch of the online voter registration system on Thursday. It’s accessible at mnvotes.org and can be used by new registrants or those looking to update their existing registration.

Ritchie says the move should provide extra convenience to voters, reduce errors caused by illegible handwriting and incomplete forms, and save governments money by cutting down on postage, printing and manual data entry.

Minnesota is the 15th state to allow online registration.

People using the system must present verifiable identification data and they’ll have their applications checked in similar fashion as before. Successful applicants will be notified of their polling place.
