Northeast Iowa city dismisses police chief

STRAWBERRY POINT, Iowa (AP) — The police chief in the small northeastern Iowa city of Strawberry Point has been dismissed and another city official has resigned.

Strawberry Point Mayor Dale Fox told KWWL-TV (http://bit.ly/1asZ6zU ) on Thursday that Police Chief Bob Pope was dismissed at a Wednesday night City Council meeting.

Fox says City Clerk/Administrator Deanna McCusker also resigned at the meeting.

Fox says Liz Jaster was named the interim city administrator. The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office will take on the city’s law enforcement duties.

The mayor didn’t explain the reasons behind the firing and resignation.
