In Minn., artists rev up chain saws for 3-day show

HACKENSACK, Minn. (AP) — Artists who use chain saws as their main tools are gathering in northern Minnesota for the next three days.

Ten artists are expected to show their stuff beginning Friday at the National Chainsaw Carving Event in Hackensack, a town of about 300 people near Brainerd. It’s not the first time that Hackensack has hosted the event, which this year will feature carvers from Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska.

Their goal is to turn logs into art in front of crowds, with their sculptures auctioned off at the end of the weekend.

As part of the event, area residents are asked to chip in white pine logs that are 16 to 20 inches in diameter.
