No charges in Iowa man’s fatal shooting of father

LOCKRIDGE, Iowa (AP) — Southeast Iowa prosecutors say a man’s fatal shooting of his father was justified so no charges will be filed.

Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dille (DIH’-lee) says 46-year-old David Bittner was shot after kicking down a door at his daughter’s house in Lockridge around 11 p.m. on Sept. 4. Dille says Bittner’s adult son and Bittner’s estranged wife were there.

Dille says the son used a shotgun to shoot Bittner in the abdomen when Bittner reached behind his back. Bittner had been known to carry weapons.

Dille says Bittner had been warned to stop and to leave before he was shot.
