AUSTIN, Minn - It’s an important day for a new school in southern Minnesota.
I.J. Holton Intermediate School in Austin opens it’s doors for the district’s fifth and sixth grade students for the first time this school year.
The school focuses on STEAM education; that’s science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.
today a dedication ceremony for the school is taking place.
District leaders say it’s a way to celebrate the new school and all the hard work it took to make the STEAM school a reality.
“You can see people still streaming in to see the new school. It’s not very often a community has the opportunity to build a new school and in Austin, it’s been over 50 years since a brand new school had been built so the community is very excited,” said David Krenz, Superintendent for Austin Schools.
The dedication ceremony also included tours of the school and STEAM-related activities for the entire family.
