Iowa man who shot officer faces federal charges

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A man who shot a Sioux City police officer in April now faces federal robbery, carjacking and firearms charges.

The Sioux City Journal reports ( that 22-year-old Jamal Dean, of Sioux City, was charged in Sioux City’s federal court late Thursday.

His brother and a female friend also face similar federal charges.

Authorities say Dean and his brother broke into a Sioux City home and beat and robbed a resident at gunpoint in April. A few days later, Dean shot Sioux City Police Officer Kevin McCormick, who survived. Dean was given 25 years in prison for attempted murder.

The federal indictment spells out a conspiracy by Jamal Dean, Levon Dean and Sarah Berg to rob drug dealers of drugs, cash and other possessions, including cars, at gunpoint.
