DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The city of Des Moines wants its residents to move around.
Several blocks of a major street in Des Moines will be closed Sunday afternoon for Open Streets, an event promoting neighborhoods, local businesses and physical activity.
Organizers say the event on University Avenue between 23rd and 41st streets will feature yoga, soccer and dance. Some areas will be converted into a disc golf course, a skate park and a concert hall.
Other attractions for the free event include recumbent bike test rides and hula hoop lessons.
The Open Streets event, titled DSMove, is designed after a national effort. It is being organized by the Des Moines Parks and Recreation, Des Moines Bicycle Collective and other groups.
