Authorities investigate Iowa man’s tree death

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are investigating how a man was killed by a piece of tree trunk in northeast Iowa.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office says 66-year-old Barry Fink, of Sumner, was found dead Monday morning at a field northeast of Readlyn.

Investigators say Fink was using a chainsaw to cut wood from a large dozer pile when a portion of a large tree trunk shifted and came to rest on him.

Authorities believe the incident was an accident. The State Medical Examiner’s Lab in Ankeny is conducting an autopsy.
