Minn. National Guard idling military technicians

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Roughly 1,200 military technicians who support activities of the Minnesota National Guard are being furloughed during the federal government shutdown.

Lt. Col. Jon Lovald says supervisors informed the technicians Tuesday morning that they will be out of work until further notice. The federal government’s lack of a spending resolution triggered a partial shutdown that began at midnight.

Those being sidelined are among the 2,100 full-time military support personnel at the Guard.

Lovald’s statement says that citizen-soldiers and airmen remain ready to respond in case of emergencies.
