ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A lawyer for a priest accused possessing pornography denies any of the images showed minors.
Jennifer Haselberger, a former official with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, told Minnesota Public Radio (http://bit.ly/19pDZvw) that she quit after top officials refused to take action when she discovered pornography in church files on the Rev. Jonathan Shelley. She says she believes some of the pictures showed minors.
But Paul Engh, a lawyer for the priest, tells The Associated Press he never possessed any child pornography.
Police recently concluded the CDs show only adults and no charges have been filed.
The archdiocese has issued a statement reacting to recent news reports on its handling of priests accused of misconduct. It says church officials are committed to identifying and addressing misconduct by priests.
