WAPELLO, Iowa (AP) — City officials in Wapello understand the enthusiasm generated at high school football games and have decided to exempt the local high school football field from following the city’s noise ordinance.
The Muscatine Journal reports (http://bit.ly/18CFklK ) the City Council at its meeting Thursday agreed to allow the stadium to be noisy but asked school officials to try to keep it down.
Officials say recent tests during two home football games showed sound levels exceeding the city’s noise ordinance.
Wapello School District Superintendent Mike Peterson says he’s assured the council the school is trying to be a good neighbor and he’s told announcers and coaches to keep pre-game music and other sounds coming from the field lower.
