Ariz. man, Minn. woman win Twin Cities marathons

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — An Arizona man and Minnesota woman won the Twin Cities marathon.

According to the Twin Cities Marathon website, Nick Arciniaga, of Flagstaff, Ariz., had an unofficial time of in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 12 seconds on Sunday. The 30-year-old had a pace of 5:06 per mile. It was his 13th marathon.

The record belongs to Phil Coppess, who finished with 2:10:05 in 1985.

Annie Bersagel finished in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 52 seconds. According to the marathon website, Bersagel’s pace was 5:46 per mile. She’s from Victoria, Minn.

The women’s record belongs to Zinaida Semenova, who finished with 2:26:51 in 2001.

More than 28,000 participants were expected to compete in related running events Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s 26.2 mile course began in Minneapolis and ended in St. Paul.
