Student charged in knife incident at Iowa school

LONE TREE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have charged an 18-year-old student accused of trying to carry a knife into an eastern Iowa high school.

Online court documents say Daniel Jansen is charged with going armed with intent, a felony, and going armed with a knife, a misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident at Lone Tree High School on Sept. 23. Authorities say Jansen was wearing a long coat and skeleton mask when he tried to enter the school. School officials confronted him at the entrance and he was detained after a struggle. Police reports say he threatened to kill the officials and others.

The school was locked down temporarily. Jansen taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for evaluation.

Jansen’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call Tuesday from The Associated Press.
