Coralville will appeal post office move

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Coralville officials want to prevent the closure a Postal Service customer service location in a central location of the city.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported ( ) Wednesday that city officials will appeal a Postal Service decision to close the customer service location on 10th Avenue.

City Administrator Kelly Hayworth says city officials accept the need to move operations and mail carrier services to a site in an industrial zone, but they say that spot is a poor location for customers. Hayworth says there are parking issues, the area doesn’t have sidewalks and there is no public transit.

Last summer, objections about the proposal prompted postal officials to reconsider their plan, but they wrote in a letter Sept. 25 they would close the central facility.

Officials had 30 days to appeal.
