Iowa college raises money to pay professors better

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A Catholic college in Dubuque has launched a campaign to pay its professors better.

Loras College in Dubuque kicked off the campaign Thursday to raise $75 million. Administrators hope higher salaries will attract quality teachers and encourage them to stay.

The school also aims to use some money for student financial aid.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports (http://bit.ly/16AcWkM ) trustees say they’ve already raised $44 million during the silent phase of the campaign.

The four-year school has about 1,600 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
