Iowa cultural projects get $1 million in grants

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A state board is giving over $1 million in grant funding to a public garden, a backcountry trail, an amphitheater and two community center projects.

The Vision Iowa Board announced the funding Thursday. The board approved the funding at a meeting in Des Moines.

The Thomas Jefferson Gardens in Jefferson will get money for improvements that include a walkway, fences and new plantings. Funding will go to community center projects at Five Island Lake in Emmetsburg and in Templeton.

Funding will also go to a trail project in Coon Rapids and to an amphitheater being constructed in Waverly.

Vision Iowa provides grants for recreational, cultural, education and entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa.
