Authorities ID man shot by Davenport officer

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified a man shot by a Davenport police officer.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Ryan Adam Franklin remains at a hospital following the Thursday shooting. They say his condition is improving but additional information was not released.

Davenport Police Maj. Don Schaeffer told the Quad-City Times that two officers were responding to a burglary report when they apprehended a man in an alley.

One officer frisked the man, later identified as Franklin, on the ground and found a gun. Franklin is accused of running from the officers and disobeying orders to stop. He allegedly reached for his gun, prompting an officer to fire several shots.

Officials say they expect to complete interviews with Franklin and the two officers soon.
