ZEARING, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a city councilman in central Iowa killed himself only hours after detectives found child pornography on his home computer.
Story County Sheriff’s Capt. Barry Thomas confirmed Saturday that Zearing City Councilman Scott Frank shot himself in the basement of his home on Sept. 17. Only hours earlier, sheriff’s officials searched Frank’s home and confiscated his computer.
Thomas says investigators also questioned the 51-year-old councilman that day about several images of nude boys found on the computer.
Thomas says Frank was not arrested or charged and was released after questioning. Frank was found dead in his home later that evening.
Thomas says the criminal investigation has been closed because of Frank’s death, but that investigators are still looking into whether any of the images are those of local victims.
