DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Organizers of a smoke alarm installation in Des Moines say they expect more than 300 volunteers to participate.
Volunteers in teams of three will go door-to-door Saturday in the Highland Park neighborhood to check batteries and replace them with new ones if necessary. They will also offer to install new dual-sensor smoke alarms.
The American Red Cross Serving Greater Iowa and the city fire department are helping to host the event.
Volunteers from Red Cross and other organizations will meet before the canvassing to watch a video on how and where to install smoke alarms. They’ll also receive supplies.
