West Liberty fires manager over ‘trust issues’

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) — The West Liberty City Council has fired its city manager of nine years.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/GTKOQ8 ) the council voted 4 to 1 to terminate its contract with City Manager Chris Ward.

Mayor Chad Thomas blamed the situation on “trust issues.”

Problems first arose in August when city officials learned West Liberty’s recycling program had been failing to actually recycle glass, plastic and metal for several years.

Thomas says the City Council doesn’t have a plan to replace Ward, but he likely will recommend the city begin an outside search for a new city manager.
