GARNER, Iowa (AP) — The northern Iowa city of Garner is moving ahead with plans to annex a private golf course and establish a nonprofit organization to run the course.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/192Zbuy ) Garner City Administrator Randy Lansing says the city plans to annex five parcels as it works to take control of the Garner Golf and Country Club.
Club members asked city officials to buy the club, which is dealing with declining membership and heavy debts.
Lansing says officials are working with club members to create a nonprofit group that would operate the course.
Officials expect the city to complete purchase of the course by Jan. 1.
The club has operated the course for about 35 years.
