Sure sign of winter: Water off in Des Moines parks

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — In a sure sign winter is approaching, the city of Des Moines will begin shutting off water to park restrooms and fountains.

The city Parks and Recreation Department says workers will begin turning off water Tuesday to ensure restrooms and fountains wouldn’t be damaged by an unexpected freeze.

The department is responsible for 76 parks, seven cemeteries and a number of municipal facilities.
