Ely adopts moratorium on synthetic drugs

ELY, Minn. (AP) — The City of Ely (EE’-lee) has imposed a six-month moratorium on synthetic drugs and electronic cigarettes.

E-cigarettes are prohibited anywhere regular tobacco cigarettes are not allowed, including restaurants, bars and parks. It also bans businesses that sell e-cigarettes from allowing customers to sample the products indoors.

The moratorium also bans any business or person from selling synthetic drugs.

Mayor Ross Peterson tells WDIO-TV (http://bit.ly/1ar3Cgt ) the moratorium gives the city some time to draw up a permanent ordinance.
