Iowa Holocaust Memorial dedicated

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A ceremony to dedicate the new Iowa Holocaust Memorial in Des Moines drew more than 200 spectators to remember millions of people who died in the Holocaust and honor survivors living in Iowa and Iowa soldiers who liberated the concentration camps.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1bZnw52 ) the idea for the project formed several years ago, when Judy Blank, executor of the Jacqueline and Myron Blank Foundation, learned that Iowa was one of only five states without a memorial to the Holocaust. The Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines also helped make the project a reality.

The memorial is in the West Terrace area of the Iowa Capitol, a location Gov. Terry Branstad says is certain to attract school groups walking between the Capitol and the State Historical Museum.
