Family wants answers in police-involved shooting

MINNETONKA, Minn. (AP) — The family of a southern Minnesota man shot and killed by Minnetonka police is looking for answers.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Regner Tray of Austin was shot by police Wednesday night in the underground garage of a suburban apartment complex.

Tray died at the scene. The Hennepin County medical examiner says he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called to the apartments after a resident said a man who didn’t live there had been spotted with a cocked revolver.

Tray’s stepfather, Jim Greer of Austin, tells the Star Tribune that his stepson had found an antique .44 Magnum revolver while fixing his late father’s house in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Greer suspects Tray brought the gun with him to his girlfriend’s Minnetonka apartment so it wouldn’t be stolen.
