Trial date set for 4 men in Iowa beating death

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A trial date has been set for four men charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of a Des Moines man.

Online court records show 21-year-old Le’Prese Derrion Williams, 19-year-old James Alon Shorter, 18-year-old Yarvon Nathaniel Russell, and 18-year-old Kent Anthony Tyler are scheduled for trial on Dec. 9.

The men have been accused of attacking 40-year-old Richard Daughenbaugh. He was found severely beaten in a parking lot near the Center Street bridge. He later died at a hospital.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1diifXy ) a search warrant in the case says the men beat Daughenbaugh after he honked his horn at the group.

Williams’ attorneys declined to comment. Court records do not list attorneys for Shorter, Russell and Tyler.
