Retired ISU professor to register as sex offender

AMES, Iowa (AP) — A retired Iowa State University professor will be required to register as a sex offender for possessing child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt says the order for 69-year-old Walter Thomas Meyer was part of a sentence given Thursday.

Meyer was also sentenced to time served, one year of home confinement and five years of supervised release.

Meyer, a retired physics and astronomy professor, pleaded guilty in July to possession of child pornography. A judge says the former instructor was given time served because the images and movies of boys that Meyer possessed did not depict sexual assault.
