Father of slain Iowa woman testifies in trial

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — The father of a slain pregnant Iowa woman has been questioned during his son-in-law’s murder trial about the couple’s neighbor.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1b0VtBl ) Todd Caldwell testified Monday in the trial of Seth Techel. He is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of his wife, Lisa Techel, in their southeast trailer.

The defense asked Caldwell, who worked in the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department, about a comment he made at the scene of his daughter’s death.

Caldwell says his “Get him” comment to deputies was a reference to the couple’s neighbor, a man which defense attorneys say is a possible suspect in the case.

Caldwell says he had investigated reports from the neighbor about harassment from Seth Techel.

Seth Techel’s first trial ended in mistrial in March.
