Jury hears recordings of Iowa man in murder trial

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — Jurors in the trial of an Iowa man accused of killing his pregnant wife have listened to audio and seen video of the former jail guard talking about the woman’s death.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1aDqn6t ) prosecutors played the recordings Tuesday in Seth Techel’s trial. He is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of Lisa Techel. She was found shot in their Agency trailer.

In the recordings, Seth Techel says he was in the shower when he heard a gunshot. He says he found Lisa Techel lying on the bed, and he ran outside to look for a shooter. He says his wife was not breathing when he returned.

Defense attorneys say the couple’s neighbor is a possible suspect in the case.
