MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — Defense attorneys have begun calling witnesses and presenting evidence in the murder trial of a former Iowa jail guard accused of killing his pregnant wife.
The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/HJXQjF ) the state rested its case Thursday in the trial of Seth Techel. Defense attorneys focused their questioning on a neighbor that lived near Techel and his wife.
Defense attorney Steven Gardner asked at least three witnesses about the neighbor. Wapello County Sheriff Mark Miller said the department knew of the neighbor as a potential threat to deputies’ safety.
Techel is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of Lisa Techel. She was found shot in their Agency trailer.
The defense says the neighbor is a likely suspect in the death. Prosecutors say there is no evidence.
