Des Moines authorities identify shooting victim

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines authorities have released the name of a 21-year-old man who was shot to death in a neighborhood east of Drake University.

On Friday police identified the man as Leroy Gordon III, of Des Moines.

Sgt. Jason Halifax says police received reports of gunshots about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Officers who were dispatched to the scene found Gordon, who was pronounced dead later at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Several witnesses were taken to the police station for interviews. No arrests have been reported.

Polk County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. People can call 515-223-1400.

Halifax says it’s Des Moines’ 11th homicide this year.
