Fires damage 5 mobile homes in eastern Iowa park

HIAWATHA, Iowa (AP) — A fire has spread from one mobile to five in a mobile home park in the Cedar Rapids suburb of Hiawatha.

Firefighters were dispatched around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday to the Tower Terrace Mobile Home Park. They found three homes already in flames that soon spread to two more homes.

Hiawatha Fire Chief Mike Nesslage suspects a gas meter burned off at one home, allowing natural gas to escape and be ignited.

At least nine residents fled safely. No injuries have been reported.

The fire cause is being investigated.
