Grant spurs work on downtown Mason City buildings

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A $500,000 grant is spurring renovations to 11 building facades in downtown Mason City.

The Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1cVuQ67 ) the SuzieQ cafe was the latest business to have an exterior renovation thanks to the grant.

The Community Development Block grant is being administered by Main Street Mason City.

The group’s executive director, Jodee O’Brien, says participating building owners must contribute 10 percent of the cost to qualify for grant money.

Other businesses that are participating include Ralph’s Garden Cafe, Brick Furniture and Ransom’s Cigar Store.
