DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — State transportation officials have closed a section of Interstate 35 in Duluth after an inspection found a deteriorating support piling.
The damaged piling is one of 38 that support a low bridge on the southbound lanes of the interstate. Minnesota Department of Transportation engineer Duane Hill tells the Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/I2zQs1 ) the piling was so corroded they could see through it.
Repairs are expected to begin Tuesday. Officials expect the southbound lanes to be closed for at least a week or more.
