Muscatine school stops food service due to rodents

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — A Muscatine middle school temporarily stopped serving hot lunches after finding signs of rodents in the school’s kitchen.

The Muscatine Community School District says staff at West Middle School noticed Friday some prepackaged food had small holes in them. The food was discarded and sack lunches were prepared offsite for students both Friday and Monday.

Superintendent Jerry Riibe told the Muscatine Journal (http://bit.ly/1a0AbRQ ) that none of the food was contaminated, but district officials wanted to err on the side of caution.

West Middle School is the only school in the district that showed signs of rodents. Its kitchen began serving hot lunches again Tuesday.
