CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa stream has been restocked with 200 rainbow trout and 200 brook trout.
The state Department of Natural Resources says the stocking took place Nov. 20 along the upper half of McLoud Run. That runs along Interstate 380 through northeast Cedar Rapids. Eight 2-to-3 pound post-spawn brood fish were also added.
Paul Sleeper, a fisheries biologist for DNR, says the brook trout were stocked at the upper end of the stream where the water is a little colder.
The trout are from DNR’s Manchester hatchery. They’re replacing fish killed during a water main break last summer. About 80 trout were killed due to chlorine in the treated water and subsequent earth work to repair the break.
