Iowa couple with adopted children encourage others

VAN METER, Iowa (AP) — A central Iowa couple has adopted a 10th child into their family, and they encourage others to consider providing a home to a child or teenager.

KWWL-TV in Waterloo reports (http://bit.ly/1bt6QpB ) Amanda and Levi Hancock, of Van Meter, recently adopted a baby girl named Mila. They say the latest addition will be their last.

The couple says the adoptions have allowed the kids to thrive in a loving environment. Levi Hancock says the couple has encouraged the children to become the people they want to become.

Des Moines attorney Michelle Saveraid, Mila’s court-appointed guardian, says the benefits of adopting a child far outweigh the struggles. State statistics show that as of August 2012, there are more than 760 children in Iowa who are legally eligible for adoption.
