CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Officials have declared northern Iowa’s Clear Lake to be iced-in, a declaration that is more than two weeks earlier than last year.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1ccEE8X ) the Clear Lake Water Department declared ice-in on Nov. 25. Last year, that milestone was reached Dec. 11.
The department makes the declaration when employees can’t see open water along the shoreline.
The earliest ice-in was Nov. 4, 1991. The latest was Dec. 24, 2001.
