Police charge woman in fatal Des Moines stabbing

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Police say a woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in Des Moines.

Des Moines police say 21-year-old Miranda Rose Louis was booked Friday into Polk County Jail. She is considered the only suspect in the death of Juan Carlos Chavarria.

Officers were sent to an apartment on the city’s south side early Friday. Sgt. Jason Halifax says Chavarria was taken from the apartment to Mercy Medical Center with stab wounds to the torso. He was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say several witnesses have been brought into the police station for questioning. Additional details about the case have not been released.

Court records do not list an attorney for Louis.
